The Bhagavad Gita is a significant text in Indian spirituality, offering profound insights into the nature of consciousness, the self, and the universe. It is part of the ancient Sanskrit epic Mahabharata and was first narrated during the battle of Kurukshetra by Lord Krishna to Prince Arjuna. This scripture consists of a conversation between Arjuna and Krishna on various philosophical issues.

Presented in the context of a fratricidal war, the Bhagavad Gita addresses Arjuna's despondency as he seeks guidance from his charioteer, Krishna. Notably, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi found inspiration in the Bhagavad Gita's call for selfless action and regarded it as his "spiritual dictionary" during India's independence movement.
